Five Star’s Delaware Senior Living Communities Lend a Hand to Residents in Haiti

Posted 1/25/2010

Staff and residents from Shipley Manor, Foulk Manor South, Foulk Manor North, Millcroft, and Forwood Manor recently answered the call for help from a delegation of Delaware doctors and nurses headed to Jacmel, Haiti to assist with relief efforts.

On very short notice, the Five Star communities, along with other members of The Delaware Healthcare Facilities Association (DHCFA), rallied to donate medications, nutritional supplements, baggage, and money. The Five Star communities also provided transportation to and from the Philadelphia Airport for the Delaware delegation and their busload of supplies for Haiti’s victims.

The American Health Care Association, parent organization to the DHCFA, has received many calls from health providers who are concerned with the displaced nursing home residents of Haiti.

"We have all seen the devastation and destruction caused by the 7.0 magnitude earthquake that rocked the island nation and now we are called to take action and contribute to relief efforts,” said Bruce Yarwood, President & CEO of the American Health Care Association.

"As members of this profession, we know first hand about caring for the nation’s most frail and vulnerable individuals. I urge you all to tap into that compassion and contribute financially or with services and supplies to the Haiti relief efforts in order to provide much needed food, water, shelter and critical medical expertise to those in need.”

The Delaware team of doctors and nurses has been able to provide care for numerous injured and ill Haitians. Thank you to those at Shipley Manor, Foulk Manor South, Foulk Manor North, Millcroft, and Forwood Manor for helping them in this time of need.   Read about the Delaware team of doctors in The News Journal
